During the tail end of 2020 I spent some personal time learning to make basic GameBoy games via GBStudio. As I got more familiar with the art constraints I thought it would be a fun exercise to see what I could do with the visuals of UnderMine within that. Working with reduced palettes and resolutions from what I am used to is always a challenge, and working with the GameBoy was no exception. This mockup was a hit internally and within the UnderMine Community, so much so that the team decided to take this as a template to build a fully pledged endless runner demake for the Pico-8. Said demake, which builds off of the foundation I created here had many of it's own challenges and I am excited to share the work I did on it later this year.
